I have a pair of 10 inch 406 speakers and passives for a "Bolero" system that could use new surrounds for the cones. Of course, I have been able to find numerous foam type replacements that would work, but I'd prefer to use the original style "accordian" surrounds. Does anyone have information regarding where these could be obtained, as well as the "forever sticky" dope that ALTEC used on these cloth units? Any thoughts on using foam or rubber edge surrounds, if I can't find the orginal style?

Hi ArtG. Todd is right about you contacting Bill at Great Plains Audio in OKC.

I will add some to answer your question.
If you are refering to your "high-compliance" 10 inch Altec 406-8C woofers......no do not use any foam, or rubber to replace thier surrounds. This will cause a change in the driver's original nominal free-air cone resonant frequency which by the way for a 406 it is 28 hz. Only use the cloth surround, and the Altec sticky dope on it. forums The 406 is basically a low resonance , high-efficiency woofer similar to the models 416, and 515, but smaller.

If you are refering about the surrounds on the "passive" drivers, Bill can hopfully help you with those. To be honest, I have not seen these particular "passives" myself in-person. forums

    Thanks, AL-TEC forums
